Basic Poker Instructions On How To Play Texas Holdem
Texas Hold ‘em is thought to have originated in Robstown Texas in the early twentieth century. Gamblers brought Texas Hold ‘em to Las Vegas in 1967 and it remained relatively obscure until Binion’s World Series of Poker decided to make the main event No Limit Texas Hold ‘em in 1971.

Texas Hold ‘em is played by each player being dealt two cards face down followed by five community cards being dealt face up in the middle of the table.
The first deal is determined by one card being dealt to each player, the player with the highest card deals.
Casino games use a professional dealer and online games us a virtual dealer. A marker or button is used to denote the “dealer” in such games. The dealer is the last player to bet making this position an advantageous one.
Two mandatory bets called the blinds are placed by the two players sitting to the left of the dealer. The small blind is the position immediately adjacent to the dealer and is one half the amount of the minimum bet at the table stakes. The big blind is the second position to the left of the dealer and is the amount of the minimum bet for the table. All raises must be at least twice the bet being raised, unless the player raising is placing all of their chips in play, or going all in.
The chips in play are referred to as the pot. After the blinds are placed, an ante may or may not be required. With blinds and antes’ (if any) in the pot the dealer will deal two cards face down to each player. These cards are referred to as hole cards and are generally not disclosed to other players until the end of the hand if a showdown occurs.
After the hole cards are dealt there is a round of betting with the first player to the left of the big blind commencing the action. Players can fold, call the big blind or raise in turn. Three community cards, referred to the as the flop are then dealt face up in the middle of the table. Another round of betting occurs with players speculating on the best five card hand they can make with their hole cards and the community cards with two more cards to be dealt Players may check, bet at least the amount of the big blind, raise or fold.
The next card dealt is called fourth street or the turn and is the fourth community card dealt face up. Betting will take place in the same order will players still in the hand with the same options as an the flop.
The last card is a community card dealt face up called the river. Now the final round of betting occurs. If more than one player remains in the hand the last player to call shows his cards. Any player having a stronger hand can turn them over and claim the pot. Losing hands are typically mucked without being shown.
At any time during betting any player can go all in or place all of their chips in play. This unique aspect of No Limit Texas Hold ‘em makes the game a psychological battle more than anything else.
The standard ranking of hands is observed. The highest rank is a straight flush composed of five consecutive cards of the same suit. Four of a kind is the next highest rated hand. Three of a kind and a pair also called a full house is third. A flush, or five non consecutive cards of the same suit is the fourth highest hand. A straight, or five consecutive cards of two or more suits is the fifth ranked hand. Three of a kind is the sixth ranked hand.Two pair is the seventh strongest hand. One pair is the eighth strongest hand.
If no player makes any of the hands above the pot is won by the player holding the highest card, aces being the top ranked card.
