Instructions For Using A Poker Hand Chart

The poker hand chart may look confusing, but in reality, it is actually quite simple. Any poker hand, regardless of which variation of poker you are playing, can be broken down into one of 10 categories. These are the ten types of poker hands that you can have, ranked in order for best to worst:

1. The Royal Flush

A royal flush is when you have an ace, king, queen, jack, and ten all in the same suit(For example, all hearts, or all spades). This is by far the most rare combination in all of poker.

2. The Straight Flush

The straight flush is similar to the royal flush, except that instead of being ace-ten, a straight flush can be any combination of five cards in a row that are also all of the same suit. For example the 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, all in clubs, would be a straight flush.

3. Four of a Kind

This is exactly what it sounds like. Four of a kind means having four of the same card, as in, all four jacks or all four 8s.

4. Full House

A full house is when you have three of a kind of one card, and a pair of another. For example, holding three kings and two queens would be a full house.

5. Flush

A flush is when you have five cards that are all in the same suit. For example, having five hearts would be a flush.

6. Straight

A straight is five cards in consecutive order, that are not necessarily of the same suit.(Remember, if a straight was all in the same suit, it would be a straight flush).

7. Three of a kind

Just like four of a kind, but with one fewer. Three aces would be an example of three of a kind.

8. Two pair

Two pair is when you have two sets of two cards. For example, holding two 7s and two queens.

9. One pair

Just two cards that match.

10. High Card

This is when you have no cards that match. In poker, the ace is the highest card, while the 2 is the lowest.

Memorizing these hand values only takes a few minutes and a little bit of practice, but it is a valuable skill to memorize if you are interested in becoming a poker player.
