Poker Freerolls Instructions
Poker Freerolls were invented by online poker sites as a way of generating more interest in their sites, and by allowing them to hand out some free rewards to their loyal customers. The best part about playing in a freeroll is right there in the name. It’s free. The lack of financial commitment creates a different environment than most poker tournaments, and as a result, creates a different strategy for success in these tournaments.
Freerolls generally have huge fields of players with very few prizes. That means that there are a lot of chips in play, and it will take a lot of chips to win a prize. Add to that that many players won’t take the tournament as seriously because they didn’t have to put any money down to play, and there is the potential and the need to win a lot of chips very early in the tournament.
Normally, I would advise against trying to get involved in the early stages of a tournament because there is so much potential for disaster. But things are different in a freeroll. You should still play smart, but it’s also worth being a little more risky to try and build yourself a big chip stack. If you’re in a 1200 person freeroll, but only the top 20 get a prize, it doesn’t matter if you finish 100th or 1100th. So you may as well risk your chip stack early and try to build yourself up so that you have a chance at making it to the very end of the tournament. The big chip stack will also help because blind levels tend to increase rapidly in free tournaments. Plus, if you get busted out early, it’s not a big deal since the tournament was free anyway.
Once you get past the early stages of the freeroll, then the play becomes just like any other poker tournament. Freerolls are a great way to get experience playing and having success in big tournaments. It can really help if you’re looking to perfect your strategy at multi-table tournaments. It can also give you the experience of playing in a tournament once you get down to the money bubble, or playing at a final table. That way, if you find yourself in a situation like that in a big money tournament, you will know how to handle yourself.
Freerolls usually aren’t a great way to make money. But playing in them can be a very fun experience, and can help you refine your game and become a much better poker player.
