Simple Texas Hold’em Rules
Here is a simple list of rules for the game of Texas Hold’em that will help make any game run smoothly.
1. At the start of each hand, there should be a player designated as the dealer, represented by a dealer button. One seat to the left of the dealer is the player in the small blind, and to the left of that player is the player in the big blind.
2. The player to the left of the big blind starts the betting before the flop. He may either call the big blind, or raise. The minimum raise is always twice the amount to call a bet, unless the player does not have enough chips, in which case, he is “All In” with whatever chips he has.
3. After the first round of betting, the dealer will deal out the first three community cards. After these cards are dealt, the player to the left of the dealer starts a round of betting. After that round of betting, a fourth community card is dealt, and another round of betting, again starting to the left of the dealer, occurs. Then a fifth community card is dealt and a final round of betting takes place.
4. After the final round of betting, any player that has not yet folded their hand will show their hand, and whoever has the highest hand value wins the pot.
5. If one player goes All-In, but other players still have chips to bet, a side pot is created for the other players in the hand to bet to.
6. Once a hand is completed, the dealer button gets shifted one seat to the left and a new hand begins.
